Indonesia Targets to Become World Halal Producer Center by 2024

Governor of Bank Indonesia and Chairman of the Expert Board of the Islamic Economic Community (MES) Perry Warjiyo, targets Indonesia will become the Center of World Halal Producers in 2024. This is in line with the direction of the Vice President of The Republic of Indonesia, Ma'ruf Amin.

"Ladies and gentlemen in accordance with the direction of Vice President K.H Ma'ruf Amin target Indonesia as the center of the world's halal producers in 2024," he said in a webinar of the Sharia Economic Community (MES), Saturday (12/3).


To achieve these high targets, perry said, the government has inaugurated the Global Halal Hub Ecosystem as a synergistic national movement towards Indonesia as the World Halal Producer Center in 2024.

Global Halal Hub is one of the steps to support national economic recovery through increasing the human resource capacity of e-commerce competencies, improving product and packaging quality, global marketplace, and offline networking to business actors.


In addition to forming a global halal hub ecosystem, the government also continues to encourage the strengthening of Indonesia's islamic financial system and economy to the world level. Among other things, by strengthening people's literacy.

"How we are in synergy, synergizing to develop Indonesia's Islamic financial economy from national to global," he said.

Furthermore, the government is also actively encouraging the development of halal products to the world level. This effort is pursued through six major strategies.


First, marketing research. This aims to know the tastes of consumers in various countries to find out the type of halal products needed in each country.

"Because to be able to penetrate the global market, we must really understand our market. What consumers need in our various export destination countries, including the Middle East and other countries," he said.


Second, strengthen the ecosystem. Strengthening the ecosystem can start from curating high-quality halal products to providing financing to help producers in producing export-quality products.

"Including how the foreign trade system procedures. We have to build this ecosystem," he said.


Third, synergy between ministries / institutions to related producers. According to him, to produce high export quality products, government intervention is needed to facilitate production activities.


Fourth, it's the target. Perry said, Indonesia should be able to know what halal product targets want to be sold in the global market.

"We have many excellent indonesian halal products, but we need to of course be targeted which products we want to develop. Among others, fashion products, halal food and beverage products are one of the competitive ones indonesia is very strong, "he said.


Fifth, official support. According to him, official involvement is the key to how successful a nation is in expanding access to marketing of its superior products.

"Like, how the support of the Ministry of Trade, how halal certification assistance, how the licensing and taxation issues. It needs to be official," he said.


Finally, trade promotion. This effort is needed to introduce widely to Indonesian halal products, among others by participating in a prestigious world-level exhibition that attracts many international visitors.

"As we did today at the Dubai Expo and other countries. Trade promotion is very important," he concluded.
